E1 Team Brazil Appoints Steve Curtis as New Team Principal Ahead of Lago Maggiore Race

[June 24, 2025]

E1 Team Brazil is proud to announce the appointment of Steve Curtis, MBE, as the team’s new Team Principal, effective immediately.

Curtis will lead the team into action at the upcoming E1 Series race in Lago Maggiore this coming weekend, June 27-28, 2025. Steve Curtis is one of the most decorated figures in offshore powerboat racing history.

A nine-time Class 1 World Champion, Curtis became the youngest ever Class 1 champion at just 21 years old and has gone on to win multiple world, European, and pole position titles over a career spanning decades. His leadership and deep understanding of competitive powerboating will bring invaluable experience to Team Brazil as it looks to climb the championship standings.

The appointment comes as Team Brazil aims to build on its progress and secure podium finishes in the world’s first all-electric raceboat championship. The team sat on the podium three times in Season 1 and have two highly decorated pilots in Timmy Hansen and Marit Strømøy leading the charge on the water.

Marcelo Claure, Team Owner of E1 Team Brazil, shared his excitement:

“Steve’s incredible career in powerboating and proven record of winning at the highest levels will no doubt lead Team Brazil to multiple podiums.

We’re honored to have someone of his caliber guiding our team through season two as we head into Lago Maggiore and beyond.”

Steve Curtis, who joins after a successful spell as Performance Coach at Westbrook Racing, said:

“This is a hell of an opportunity. I know this team and it’s made up a bunch of great people. I feel that I could help and use my experience in powerboat racing to bring them to the next level.”

“‘As far as the pilot line-up goes, I think we’re in great shape and we’ve got winning pilots for sure. I’ve known Marit for years, as far as female pilots go there is no one better.

Timmy has put in some fantastic lap times, I think he’s got huge potential to be the top driver out there.”
